I’m not a fan of greenscreens that fold small – too many creases. I use a pop-up greenscreen, not so portable for location shooting but I can set it up in an instant and with nice soft lighting I never have to iron it.

It’s not big enough for full length shots but for anything else, with one person it’s fine. You don’t need a lot of width (unless you want to include someone behind a wide desk in shot). All you need is the person to fall within the edges of the greenscreen, the edges don’t matter, you can crop them out when you edit and place the person over whatever background you choose to key with.

Here’s a video I made for my Video Marketing training course. You Like?

Have you been watching the launch of Andy Jenkins’ Video Boss programme? There are some awesome videos in the sequence.

Here’s a short clip, the takeaway for me is how Andy matches real world filming with screen capture. This breaks the video up visually, you get to see the face behind the product. I watch too many back to back powerpoint videos with a voice behind them as if the person selling you the product is hiding. You don’t need to be on screen for a lot of time if you are camera shy just a glimpse is good enough.

Also note how the music and the pace of cutting lifts everything from the bog standard to a video full of energy you want to stick with.

Go check out the rest of the videos they’ll only be up for a few more days.

Later today I am sending the most pertinent comments left on Save The Flip to the powers that be at Cisco. Many Flip users feel enraged, abandoned or shocked about the decision to kill the Flip and have expressed themselves brilliantly.

I know Cisco are checking the site but it’s good to make them aware of the campaign more formally. Now here’s something else you can do ..
As you may know the latest Flip Ultra HD 3rd gen model was equipped with the Flip Port.

Many people who upgraded or bought this model as their first Flip did so with the promise of some cool plug-in 3rd party accessories including much
overdue microphones! Yes finally a microphone!
Here’s one below the Scosche freedomMIC.

It’s a bluetooth mic that plugs in under the Flip. Except, I suspect all these accessories may now never see the light of day!  Buried!
This beauty is probably sitting lonely in a warehouse somewhere (though I have no proof of this.)

But, wait for it, I spotted this tweet from Scosche in reply to a question about the Mic.

We are still developing a strategy and talking to the people at Cisco before we make a decision.”

So maybe there is hope! Maybe they will release it anyway.

I think they need to know we really want it! It’s a one time chance.

I suggest you do this.

First, follow Scosche here: https://twitter.com/#!/Scosche

and @ them something like this ..

Please, Please release the #Scosche freedomMIC for #flip  #savetheflip http://savetheflip.com

Anyway that’s it for now, keep Flipping.

YouTube have introduced an awesome tool to help improve shaky Videos. It’s not easy keeping lightweight Flip Video cameras steady even with the image stabilisation features of the new Flip Versions 3rd generation. Using the YouTube Editor you can drag in your Videos and apply the  You Tube Image stabiliser.

The Video on top is before stabilisation and the video below is the Video after correction. It makes a massive difference.

Recently I told my Flip subscribers to expect an exclusive free Video from me. I did a quick survey and the Video the majority wanted was tips on How to film yourself. So I’ve shot the film (still from the shoot above) and I am halfway through editing it. Looks like it will be about 8 minutes of useful content.

If you want to access the Video when I release it this week you need to subscribe in the sidebar!

I spotted this video via @FlipVideoBrand. This is a great example of a creative Flip Video called:

“Kassandra and Sean’s Eco-friendly Save The Date Video”

In their words:

5 hours of filming
4 hours of editing
3 legged tripod
2 crazy people in love
1 flip camera

PRICELESS DAY!!!

ENJOY!

So I got in touch with the creator and here’s some background info:

From Kassandra Taylor: “I edited the entire thing and we both directed it spontaneously throwing out ideas for the next take. Honestly, we didn’t really act…that’s how we are in real life. We basically headed out of our apt with a flip camera and tripod and were open to see where the day would take us. After we decided on a good shot, we would set up the tripod and camera in the right place and then both run to get in the shot (hoping nobody would steal the camera in the shots that were a little further away from us…but Sean was prepared to run, haha :) )

What inspired us…Our wedding is coming up in June and we wanted to create an eco-friendly/green way to do a save the date for all of our friends and family without wasting so much paper. So with both of us being performers, Sean-a musician, and I a professional contemporary ballet dancer…it seemed like the perfect solution to take a day and head to downtown Greensboro. We shot this on one of the first gorgeous days we had here in North Carolina and I came home that night and edited on Imovie with the antique filter. We are having a vintage indie DIY eco-friendly wedding in Atlanta…so it fits in perfectly with our theme.

We did this video as a unique and original save the date for only our family and friends…but if it inspires others to think about going more green with their weddings-that would be the ultimate bonus!”

PS. It’s edited with Imovie.

I spotted this Video where YouTuber KiwiKnowsKarate seems to be having trouble uploading her Flip Video. Answer: the easiest way is to use flipshare. Watch my video below, you might want to hit the full screen button. Please Facebook Like or Tweet if you found it useful.

I’ve just spotted this amazing new WordPress theme, released a couple of days ago. You can use ProfitsTheme for blogs, membership sites, sales pages etc. Profits theme does it all really easily.

Let’s say you are a fitness instructor and you want to use your Flip Video camera to create a money spinning membership site, where you charge people to access Video workout sessions. You collect the money and they get a password.

This theme can do it all for you (when combined with paypal) and it’s on a launch offer at $27 right now, rising to $97 next week. Do you want to make money from your expertise? Well it’s never been easier to set up a site that would have cost you £1000′s only a few years ago!

Check out the Video.
