Fran Kerr from OZ has made herself a cool little online business giving health and skincare advice at High on Health.org. According to Yaro Starak at Entrepreneurs Journey Fran brings in $4,000 – $12,000 a month through her blog, ebooks and real world products.

Part of her strategy is using video to connect with her readership. Funelling traffic from her YouTube channel to her blog has increased trafiic and subscribers.

Fran shoots her videos on a Flip camera. In noisy conditions she boosts the audio quality by using a clip on microphone and recording the sound separately on an audio recorder similar to this Sony Digital Voice Recorder.

Getting a mic close in to your mouth helps reduce background atmospheric noise which can be distracting. Ever notice how sports reporters hold the mic right up to their mouth to reduce the crowd sound. You don’t need to get it that close, a few inches from your mouth is fine.

Tip: Sync the picture to the audio by clapping your hands whilst you record on the Flip and the Audio recorder and match the clap sound on the tracks in your edit software.

Here’s one way to create economical Business Videos. Get hold of a few Flip Video cameras and mail them out to participating customers together with a Flip Video shooting tips document. You’ll want to add a cheap tripod to the parcel.

Ask your customers to record testimonials about your service or product, pick the best videos and cut them into short promos which will feel unstaged and honest. No expensive Corporate Video Production companies to pay either!

Add a return envelope if you are a small biz on a tight budget or if not why not gift a Flip Video camera for every testimonial used as an incentive.

This is an interesting interview with Ken Wirt, VP of Consumer Marketing at Cisco. Cisco bought Flip last year and are taking the camera forward into it’s next evolution.
