Following todays announcement from Flip about the new product line and new Flip port – this 3rd party device has made me smile the most.
The Blue Mikey for Flip plugs into the new Flip Ultra HD port and gives you a superior inbuilt mic for recording music and speech. But here’s the great thing you can plug an external lavalier clip or handheld mic into it so it will help you beat wind noise and capture audio where the background noise is distracting.
Hopefully when the Vloggers use it we will get less of those “I sound like I’m in a cave” videos on YouTube! The Kodak Zi8 and the soon to be released Playsport both have a Mic input and this has really challenged high profile Flip users some of whom have moved away from the Flip brand because until today there was no external Mic option.
But now it’s time to think again. Because let’s face it the Flip is a way prettier camera than any of the others in the Pocket Video market.
Blue Mikey Tech Specs:
Condenser stereo microphone.
Automatic sensitivity switch with “Loud” setting for rock concerts
Mic-in port allows for easy plug-in of additional corded interview, handheld, or lavalier microphone
Built-in tripod mount
Takes AAA batteries
Carrying pouch
Update: The device is due for release at CES Jan 2011. Expected price is $69.

I like the look of these Karvt Wooden skins for your Macbook Pro (also available for Iphone and Ipad). Made from real wood: either bamboo, maple, pine, and walnut, the skin comes with a 3M adhesive back to attach your device.
How about a wooden Flip Video skin to make your Flip look like a block of wood? Maybe not.
Check out this improvised Flip Video rig. The rig extends 8 ft and rotates almost 360%. It’s the DIY creation of a Flip fan going by the name of Fishsooup.
Right now if you want to get a Flip with a permanent picture on the casing you have to be in the US and the service is only available for the Mino and the Slide not the Ultra.
But there’s another way. You can get skins from DecalGirl which fit all the Flip range and can be taken off if ever you want to change the picture.
Each design is digitally printed in art-quality resolutions onto cast vinyl.
Each skin is covered with a glossy clear laminate layer to protect the design and the device from minor scratches.
The removable channeled adhesive doesn’t leave residue when removed.
DecalGirl skins are thin enough to work with most third-party cases and accessories.
Check out these unusual bottle tripods, ideal for your summer vacation. Attach to different sized bottles and you can easily stabilise your Flip, and get yourself in the group shot.

The InvisibleShield by Zagg is a global bestseller and it’s available for your Flip Ultra HD and your Flip Mino/Mino HD. If you are worried about scratches and scuffs then this product will protect your precious Flip.
I’ve had a few questions asking if there is a waterproof case for the Flip Mino. The Flip Video brand only make a purpose built one for the Flip Ultra 2nd series and Flip Ultra HD.
